Migrating to Drupal

What's the Drupal migration process like?

Many times, our customers have never gone through a data migration before. Here at ClikFocus, we don’t believe that one size fits all. We understand that every client has unique needs, and tailor our approach a little differently each time to make sure those needs are met.

No one wants to go through a big change blind, and we want to make sure we do things right. That’s why we will always do at least one test run. We keep excessive backups at every step possible to make sure your data is always safe. We'll migrate the current data to a staging site only you can access. That way we can ensure that everything looks the way you want it to before it goes live.

With your input, we will then run through the process again, adding any new content or changes from the review process. Only after everything is perfected will the data be placed on your new site for everyone to see.

How long will it take?

The exact amount of time data migration requires depends on the source material and its structure. However, we at ClikFocus have pride in our speed and quality. We can do the work quickly and never lose sight of our quality result.

We are dedicated to making the migration process as swift and effective as possible. Recently, we completed a migration from a standalone Wordpress blog to a blog integrated with the Drupal-powered corporate website in under two hours. Very complex migrations have taken us up to 2 weeks. No matter how big your project is, we will complete it quickly. Think that data migration has to be a slow and painful process? We think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.

How will my SEO be affected?

When migrating content across a system, it is not enough simply to ensure that the same pages appear on the new site. Unless the pages are still accessible at the old URL, all those hard-earned search rankings are lost. That’s where we come in.

We not only put in permanent redirections to keep old bookmarks working, we can often improve your SEO. By moving from a URL like this (an actual URL generated by a proprietary Content Management System):

example.com/151730214975593/site/default.asp

to this:

example.com/programs/summer-school

we can improve your site’s usability and SEO. We know you don’t want to lose your search rankings. We don’t want you to either.

What about formatting?

Losing your formatting is one of those little irritations that can add up into a big problem. ClikFocus has you covered.

By using various technologies to strip out any website creation tool-generated markup that is not standards-compliant, we ensure that your source data’s formatting is preserved. This means faster page loading times, improved cross-browser compatibility, and less frustration.
