Incremental Website Redesign Series

In this new series of blog posts, we will be going over the complete overhaul of the PreciseHearing.com theme. The website functions like a dream, but as long-term clients we felt they deserved a more polished design.

What is an "Incremental Redesign"?

Quite simply we are going to be making large upgrades in small chunks over a period of time. We decided to go this route verses re-designing the entire theme from scratch and implementing it all at once. What is the benefit of this?

  1. Easier to roll out. Ask any developer and they will tell you implementing a new navigation design is a walk in the park. Implementing an entirely new custom theme is oftentimes a walk through the gantlet.
  2. Existing users wont get lost. Imagine coming home from work and finding your entire house rearranged. Walls knocked down, appliances and rooms moved. You will first question whether or not you are in the right house for fear of felony charges. Then you will no doubt have a hard time finding your way around. The same goes for a complete overhaul of your website. Making bite sized changes gives your users a treat instead of a headache.
  3. Errors are easier to spot and fix. When adding one small part of a website the developer's sole concentration is on that part, rather than divided through the whole website. If for any reason a bug comes up, it will be spotted. And crushed.
  4. Client gets more involvement than usual. When parts of pages are approved instead of entire pages, both the client and the designer gets the luxury of paying closer attention to details. Incremental redesigns are great if you're a hands on person.
  5. Easier on the budget. This is like layaway with benefits. Rather than potentially sacrificing some features in order to meet budget, we can put as much or as little time into the design and implementation as you feel comfortable with each month.
