Iterative Drupal Development

This morning I read a blog called the 10 Commandments of Web Design by Jeffrey Zeldman. He said something that sparked me to write this blog. "Amazon is constantly iterating, but in very small, subtle ways. And they test those changes." This isn't news to anyone. Everyone know that Amazon is constantly improving their website.

Normally I wouldn't suggest modeling your business after Amazon, but in this area they are doing it right. Iterative development is one of the best use cases for Drupal. The CMS (Content Management System) structure provided by Drupal allows updates to specific areas of the site without a complete overhaul.

The challenge arises when we first receive an RFP. Most clients have the mindset that one website redesign will solve all their website problems. That is the wrong mindset but a great example of how we can learn from Amazon. The short iterations of your website can help with the evolution of browsing patterns over time. It's our responsibility as the Drupal development company to teach our clients how to leverage technologies that are already in place to more effectively manage their web presence.

How does your company employ iterative development? Do you think it would be beneficial to your business model?

We would love to hear your feedback.
