How to Set Realistic Boundaries around Your Web Project

Traditionally it's never a good idea to limit the creative process, but I am going to suggest that when you set realistic boundaries you will be forced to be more creative, and more effective, with your budgeted projects.

What Do Realistic Boundaries Look Like?

There are always 3 elements to any project: time, budget, & features. When you are starting any project you usually have more than enough features, but the time and budget don't always line up.

First, you need to set a realistic timeline. If your project timeline is too short you will deliver a sub-par product, and if you don't set a timeline you will be iterating without ever launching a product.

Second, you need to set your budget. If your budget doesn't line up with the proposed timeline, something needs to change.

Third, your need to look at the feature set. Aligning your features to build the project correctly will ultimately help you when you are looking for the return on your investment.

When you set these boundaries up correctly, it forces your development/design team to come up with more resourceful ideas. Figuring out how to work within the constaints of the project will help you stay on budget, on task, and deliver your project on time.

And every client wants that.
