COVID-19 - How do I bring customers into my online Store?

Congratulations! You’ve got your business online and you’ve figured out how to set up your store. You might be thinking that now that you have a website, you’ve taken amazing pictures of your products, and you’ve got this shipping and returns process nailed, the sales are just going to start to roll in. Seriously, you’re open 24/7, right? If only that were so.

This is where some of the most difficult and important work begins. In the wide-open spaces of the internet, you now need to figure out how to attract customers to your store/site! Having an online presence is huge, but if no one knows you’re there, you might as well be hiding in a deep dark cave.

A lot of people think that marketing is marketing and doing it on the internet is no different than doing it in a store. And in some respects that’s true. You still need to know your target demographic, what their needs are, how your product helps them, and what grabs their attention.

Unlike traditional marketing, where and how you find, and track, them is a whole new world. A few things to consider are: Where do they (virtually) hang out? What kind of messaging appeals to them? Not to mention the ultimate question, how do you even know they were there?

Where is your particular market hanging out? Is it one of these popular sites?

  • Google Shopping
  • Amazon
  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Pinterest
  • TikTok
  • LinkedIn

How can I quickly find my customers? What kinds of Ads should I be running?

  • GoogleAds
  • Facebook Ads
  • Pinterest
  • Others?

What about all those other buzz words that only web marketers seem to know and understand? Do I need these things? (Uh, the answer is YES!)

  • SEO Keywords
  • Negative keywords
  • Google Analytics
  • Tags

One of the interesting aspects of online marketing is that, unlike a traditional brick and mortar store, you can actually follow your customers around after they leave! That’s right, you can follow them from website-to-website with your ads and you don’t have to worry about someone thinking you’re a creepy stalker!

It’s at this point that we highly recommend bringing in the specialists. The people who know where, how, and when to spend money on ads, track people coming to your site, and all of the other in’s and out’s of internet marketing. The right team can help take you from zero to sixty fast!

Be careful that you bring in the right people. If you aren’t seeing results, don’t be afraid to move on and bring in someone else for the job. This is your store and you want to see an ROI sooner rather than later. The last thing you need is to hop on the train and never leave the station!
